2014 cruise season 15 thousand tourists came to Gdansk on board the cruise ships08.10.2014 The arrival of m/s Astor on Saturday, 4 October 2014, marked the end of this year's cruise season in the Port of Gdansk. From its beginning on 11 May, 38 cruiseliners visited the Port of Gdansk, bringing 14,974 cruise passengers. Although the largest of them was the 205 metres long Albatros, it was the Prinsendam that in August brought the largest number of tourists - as many as 810. The majority of the vessels (32 calls) docked at the elegant waterfront of the Westerplatte Quay, and six others - at the WOC I Quay in the Wladyslawa IV Basin. The Port of Gdansk for many years has cooperated with more than a dozen carrier companies operating their cruise ships in the Baltic Sea. The most active of them in bringing their cruiseliners to Gdansk included: Seabourn and Silversea from the Bahamas and Phoenix Reisen from Germany. The efficiency and organisational arrangements of cruise ship traffic rely strongly on the local shipping agents and tour operators. Gdansk's most effective cooperation partners included: Polsteam Shipping Agency, Maritime Agency Gdynia and Baltic Gateway. The agreement concluded between MAG and Baltic Gateway provided the grounds for the most important event in the Port of Gdansk during the past cruise season. Twice - in July and in August - Club Med 2 made a major passengers turnaround of cruisers completing and starting their voyage in the Port of Gdansk. The Westerplatte Passenger Terminal, well-suited to handling passenger traffic and equipped with devices such as luggage security scanners, ensured the professional completion of a turnaround operation of 993 cruise passengers. The successfully accomplished test included not only the port services, but also the local transport, hospitality and catering business operators. Janusz Kasprowicz PGA SA PR Officer
