2nd Conference "Economy, Culture, Values"

14.05.2014

On 7-8 May of this year, the Olivia Business Centre together with the Gdansk University of Technology played host to a debate on values, with participants representing the realm of science and business in the region of Pomerania, as well as students, who in the nearest future will take the responsibility for the values shaping business practice.

The conference was organized by the Faculty of Management and Economics of the Gdansk University of Technology in cooperation with the Gdansk Business Club, with ESO Audit and Gdansk University of Technology MBA as subject matter consultants.

Is there still time and room left for values in the era where the sole permanent feature is constant change and an increasingly faster pace of life? What content is attributed today to the term "ethics"? What is the significance of principles other than chasing profits in our business routines? What is the meaning of broadly-conceived ethics considerations in business and how are they applied in practice? These were the questions discussed by the participants to the conference entitled "In Search of Values", organized as part of the cycle "Economy, Culture, Values", held on 7-8 May of this year in Gdansk.

On the second day of the Conference, during the panel discussing "Values vs. business practice. Promoting ethical attitudes as exemplified in selected companies" moderated by Piotr Domarecki, PhD, of the Department of Moral Philosophy and Bioethics at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, the invited guests included the Vice President of Board of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA, Marek Pietruszewski. The other panelists were Professor Andrzej Blikle - President of the Board of the Family Companies' Initiative association, Jaroslaw Cholodecki - Member of the Board of the Family Companies' Initiative association, Beata Ossowska-Lango - Director of the Internal Audit Office, Plenipotentiary of the President of the Board for Ethics at LOTOS Group SA, Adam Zolnowski - Member of the Board of DCT Gdansk SA and Andrzej Biernacki - President of the Board of Ekolan S.A.
