Families get-together picnic party at the port

29.06.2005

From the first sight it was clear that this was not merely the second event in the series but, first and foremost, that the first one was a success. The port-based get-together party saw families arriving in a joyful mood and children broadly grinning as there was a deep conviction that they were going to have a good fun. And they were never disappointed as not only the programme and organization, but the good weather alike conduced to what turned out to be a highly successful Saturday entertainment.
Last year, when the picnic "Port Family" was promoted for the first time, it was accompanied by an air of expectations and uncertainty that later on proved unfounded. Furthermore, the organizers, namely the Port of Gdansk Authority SA. along with the port operating companies that, to a different extent, contributed to promoting the event, decided to include this get-together party into a series of annually held celebrations under the name of the "Sea Days".

Subsequently, on Saturday, June 25 this year, similar to the previous year, the Westerplatte Ferry Terminal was playing host to the second get-together picnic party - "Port Family". All through the day - from 11 am to 6 pm and beyond that in practice - the party was attended by a few thousands of port employees along with the members of their families. There was a wealth of attractions which ensured everybody was able to find something interesting for themselves - a culinary feast combined with food for thought.

As befits a true-life picnic - all participants had the opportunity to try the taste of superb pea soup and grilled sausages. These were accompanied by cold beverages that, given the hot weather, provided the necessary refreshment. The meal was topped with a dessert - coffee and biscuits, as well as ice-creams and a genuine candy-floss. Over the whole event, the stage and, in fact, the entire ground came into possession of the participants, abounding with attractions. The youngest had a chance to try their hand at the castle, "euro-bungee", slides and at a variety of other games, contests and sports competitions, or even... at riding ponies. Besides, there were a comedian, magician, juggler and long-legged stilt walkers.

The elder were able to enjoy live music concerts by bands such as "Zuki", among others. The most pleasant event was the award presentation of the "Order of the Smile" to Wladek Ornowski for his charity activity providing aid to those in need for many last years. On top of that, the land and sea rescue action was enacted, as well as the "Sea Gala" performed by MSPR and the fire brigade "Florian". All those willing were able to take a boat tour of the port on board the ship "Bozena" and the yachts "Portowiec" and "Doker". The gathering also featured some truly athletic events: strongmen competition and the marathon run on the distance of 8.5 km.
The organizers provided a broad variety of attractions and everyone was having an enjoyable time, even more so, as accompanied by a large family - the port family. It is no wonder, therefore, that while bidding good bye, one could frequently hear "see you at the next year's party!"
