A charity event to mark the Sea Days celebrations

28.06.2006

On Saturday, 24 June this year, an annual gathering event was held to mark the Sea Days celebrations. This has already become a small tradition that, towards the end of June, port workers and their families attend a get-together party organized on the premises of the Westerplatte Ferry Terminal. This year, for the third time running, the port workers attended this summer's gathering. Similar to the previous years - also this year - the day was filled with interesting activities and entertainment.

Specifically for children, play-grounds had been arranged and fun games and quizzes carried out. The event did not lack jugglers and circus performers. The highlights of the day included face painting for children, slides, fun trampolines, pony riding and arching. A quiz was run for children and adults to test their knowledge of the Port of Gdansk. The event also featured strongmen races, a show presenting ship fire fighting performed by MSPR and the Florian fire brigade, as well as the fire boats parade. There were music bands performing on stage, including the star of the event - the "Vox" music band.

The gathering proceeded in a festive mood and did not lack in grilled food and beans soup, as well as fried fish, ice-cream and beverages. There was a wide range of interesting activities catering for all tastes and everyone enjoyed ideal picnic weather. It came as no surprise therefore that nearly 6 thousand port workers and their families attended the event and the festivities took until late in the afternoon. The invitation to the gathering was accepted by local officials such as a representative of the Governor of Pomerania - Deputy Governor Piotr Karczewski and a representative of the Mayor of the City of Gdansk - Head of the Mayor's Office Andrzej Trojanowski. The event was held under the auspices of the local media: "Dziennik Baltycki" daily and "Radio Gdansk".
