A history written by the wind within hand's reach12.09.2012 The five-mast barque "København" ranks among the 20th century's largest and most beautiful sailing ships in the world. She was used for sail training of Danish cadets for seven years until she set sails en route Buenos Aires to Melbourne and disappeared in December 1928. The strong tradition of educating generations of young sailors on sailing ships at that time prevailed over the fear of the sea. Already four years later, a new frigate was launched at the Nakskov Shipyard and has served as a sail training ship of the Danish Merchant Marine until the present day. The "Danmark", with her 20 permanent crew and space to accommodate 80 trainees, will dock at the Westerplatte Quay on 13 September at about 9am. This living evidence of a history written by the wind can be admired up close on Friday, 14 September from 3.30pm till 5 pm, and on Saturday 15 September from 2pm till 4.30pm at the invitation of her Captain Kurt Andersen addressed to all admirers of sailing vessels.
