The inauguration call of the M/S Panevezys

08.05.2002

On Tuesday, May 7th at 9 a.m. the M/S Paneyezys called at the Port of Gdansk. The Danish ship owners company of DFDS that, as of October this year, is going to open a new Gdansk-Trelleborg-Copenhagen ferry service has decided to start a regular ro-ro service line from Gdansk to Trelleborg at an earlier time. The call of the M/S Panavezys at the Obroncow Westerplatte Quay constituted the opening of this service. The vessel was moored at a temporary ro-ro berth, whereas, as of October, it will be moored at a regular berth.

- The M/S Panevezys is scheduled to call at the Port of Gdansk three times a week - says Ib Carton Nielsen, the General Director of DFDS Seaways Ltd. This is a medium-sized vessel (125.9 meters long and 16.2 meters wide) with a cargo-carrying capacity of 33 tractors and 12 passengers.

The call of the M/S Panevezys that took place on Tuesday was a test that enabled getting familiar with the vessel itself and with the ways cargo is fastened and secured. It also provided the opportunity to carry out tests for pilots, tow boats, as well as the border and customs services. The results of the tests were satisfactory and up to the required standards, whereas the M/S Panevezys left for Trelleborg to fetch cargo. It is due back to the Port of Gdansk on Thursday, May 9th.

- We are fully satisfied with the services rendered to the vessel at the Port of Gdansk, as well as the conditions of the building and the quay - emphasizes Ib Carton Nielsen. All the work had been accomplished in keeping with the schedule and in compliance with our expectations. We are deeply convinced that the launch of this service line will contribute to acquiring an increasingly expanded volume of cargo.
