A new LPG Terminal at the Port of Gdansk03.07.2008  On 25 June 2008, Aleksander Grad - Minister of State Treasury gave his consent to a thirty years' land lease from PGA SA with the view to the construction of a new gas terminal in Gdansk. Following the Minister's approval, Ryszard Strzyzewicz and Slawomir Wrzesniak - Presidents of the Board of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA signed a relevant agreement with Gdansk LPG Terminal SA. Tadeusz Zakrzewski - the firm's President of the Board, who for many years has managed the Gdansk-based company of "Naftoport", announced the development of Poland's first public LPG terminal in Gdansk.
The area of 36,500 sq. metres will accommodate LPG storage tanks with a total capacity of nearly 15 thou. m3 complete with up-to-date infrastructure meeting all contemporary safety standards. The completion of phase one of the construction and putting into operation has been scheduled for mid-2009. The terminal's target throughput capacity at the Przemyslowe Quay III is expected to reach 250 thou. of liquefied gas annually. The Gdansk port's new business partner declared the completion of the project at a minimum cost of PLN 25 million. Given the rising demand, this initiative is expected to help fill in the increasingly tangible gap in the Pomeranian region's market LPG supply. Besides its revenue from the land lease, the port will also gain profits from port charges and fees levied on gas tankers since handling services will be frequently provided to medium-sized vessels of 500-4000 tonnes expected to make regular calls at Gdansk. Gas will be transported by rail and by road alike.
