A new turning basin at the Port of Gdansk26.11.2015 On 25 November 2015, PGA SA and the Polish-Danish consortium of PRCiP and Rohde Nielsen signed an agreement regarding the turning basin. The agreement, which was concluded on 25 November 2015 between the Port of Gdansk Authority SA and a consortium of two companies - Przedsiebiorstwo Robot Czerpalnych i Podwodnych Sp. z o.o. and Rohde Nielsen A/S - concerns the installation of a turning basin located between the Ore Pier, the Southern Breakwater and the boundary of the existing fairway to the DCT 1. The depth of the basin will descend to 16.5 metres to allow the passage of vessels with a draft of up to 15 metres. This depth is suitable for ships entering the Baltic via the Danish straits. The basin will cover an area of 22.4 hectares. The dredging operation will involve more than 1 600 000 m3 of material excavated from the bottom of the basin. The work will be preceded by a ferromagnetic study of the bottom - an engineering survey - along with the removal and neutralisation of potential localised dangerous substances. An additional requirement of the agreement is constant archaeological supervision of the operation. After the completion of the dredging operation, the area will be demarcated with navigation buoys in accordance with the requirements of the Maritime Office in Gdynia. The completion of this investment is forecast for August 2016 at a cost of approximately 22 million zl.
