19.05.2006

On 18 May this year, Minister of Maritime Economy Rafal Wiechecki paid a visit to the Port of Gdansk. The Minister came to the Tricity at the invitation of the Polish Chamber of Maritime Commerce. During the press conference held at the Northern Port Harbour Master's Office, Minister Wiechecki presented the department's main activity prospects for the immediate future and voiced his opinion on detailed questions concerning issues such as the location of a gas terminal, bringing the ships back under the white and red flag, tonnage tax and the law on the employment of seamen on sea-going vessels.

Andrzej Kasprzak, President of the Board of the PGA SA, briefed Minister Wiechecki on the main development prospects of the Port of Gdansk, with the main focus on processes relating to Poland's accession to the European Union. The discussions also addressed the possible location of a gas terminal, with arguments supporting the location in Gdansk presented to Minister Wiechecki who is opting for the Swinoujscie location. The Minister ensured that he is open to substantial argumentation and ready to discuss all issues regarding the condition of the Polish maritime economy.
