Adding to the significance of DCT Gdansk SA and the Gdansk port05.09.2008 It is with a growing satisfaction that the Port of Gdansk Authority SA has noted the successful operation of its barely one-year old business partner - DCT Gdansk SA. We have observed the increasingly large cargo volumes processed at the terminal, which thanks to its fairways and docking berths parameters boasts the capacity to accommodate the largest container carriers that can enter the Baltic Sea.
A major success of the DCT marketing and commercial team undoubtedly includes an agreement the company has made with the world-renown container carrier - the "Maersk" group. Under the agreement, as of 1 December, another two vessels shall make weekly calls at the terminal, however, it has been estimated that the DCT's annual turnover with "Maersk" will reach as much as 200 thou. TUEs. This will be possible due to an investment project that, while ensuring the handling of large-sized ocean-going vessels, will enable to eliminate the additional cost-rising cargo handling onto feeder vessels in Hamburg, Rotterdam and Bremen, which has been the usual practice so far.
It is within the context of changes in the world cargo shipping shaping the future of DCT Gdansk SA that the arrival of mv "Racha Bhum"(on 1 September) chartered by Hapag-Lloyd Polska has been noted as another milestone adding to the significance of the terminal. Newly-built by Gdynia Shipyard SA, the vessel has launched her maiden voyage at the DCT terminal, at the same time setting a record-breaking volume among the carriers handled at the terminal (2,732 TEUs). The loading of 504 20' containers and 498 40' containers (total of 1,500 TEUs) took less than twelve hours, which attests to the high efficiency of the DCT staff and full preparedness for accommodating ocean-going vessels. Another significant factor is that the containers on board "Racha Bhum" have been shipped directly to Asia.
