17.05.2002 On May 14-16 this year the 1st Maritime Fair of International Transport, Forwarding and Logistics BALT-TRANS-PORT'2002 was held in Gdansk. The Fair had been jointly organized by the Gdansk International Fair Co. and the publishing house of specialist maritime magazines PROMARE Ltd. The event gathered about 60 exhibitors from Poland and abroad representing, among others, Finland (Finnlines Plc), Great Britain (ITE GROUP Plc, World Port Development) and Lithuania (Lithuanian Shipbrokers and Agents Association). Among the major businesses represented at the Fair there were shipping companies, seaborne and land transport (Maersk Poland Ltd., CHIPOLBROK Chinese-Polish Shipping Company, PKP Cargo), seaports (Port of Gdansk Authority SA, Port of Gdynia Authority SA, Authority of Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports), cargo handling at specialist ports and terminals (Naftoport Ltd.), warehousing and storage of cargo, forwarding (C. Hartwig Gdynia Co., MIRTRANS International Forwarders Ltd and SPEDCONT Forwarding Polska Ltd), logistics services (COSCO POLAND Ltd), brokers and agency services, customs services, cargo insurance, publishing houses specialized in the field, as well as maritime organizations (Baltic Ports Organization and Polish Chamber of Maritime Commerce).
The Fair opening celebration, as well as the first day of the event were attended by the Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry of Infrastructure - Marek Szymonski. The Port of Gdansk Authority Co. held an exhibition stand of its own and was represented by Krzysztof Urbas - Member of the Board and Development Director.
Among the guests visiting the stand there were Andrzej Gdula - Head of the Department of Maritime Transport at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Jan Jozef Stoppa - Deputy Mayor of Gdansk for Economic Matters and Jerzy Widzyk - former Minister of Transport.
A new stand owned by the Port of Gdansk Authority SA attracted a great deal of interest and stood out against other stands due to its conspicuous design that had been inspired by the ports landscape. A large number of talks were held with business partners and new liaisons made. First and foremost, questions were asked regarding a recently opened shipping service from Gdansk to Sweden and Denmark operated by the DFDS shipping company.
The agenda of the Fair was accompanied by a five-day Baltic Ports and Shipping Business Forum that was held on May 12-16. The Forum consisted of a series of events, among them, an international conference Baltic Forum on Short Sea Shipping, as well as seminars - discussion panels. During the proceedings of the Forum a number of presentations were made by, among others, Dariusz Grzegorkiewicz, the Chairman of the BPO SSS Working Group and Chief Strategic Communications Officer of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA, referring to the condition of short sea shipping in the Baltic Sea Region, Danuta Bilat, Shipping & Transit Senior Executive of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA - "Development of Short Sea Shipping at the Port of Gdansk" and Grzegorz Mierkiewicz, Internet Specialist of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA - "Purposes of the ports website - present and future benefits to the ports customers". |
