Cadets' oath taking ceremony on Westerplatte26.09.2014 311 cadets took their military oath on Westerplatte marking the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II - thus paying homage to all those who were killed on the war fronts. The historic date coincided with the 25th anniversary of Poland's regaining its independence and the 15th anniversary of Poland's entering the circle of the NATO member states. The honorary representation of about 600 cadets starting their first year of studies was selected as a reward for their active service during their basic military training in summer. The cadets taking their oath during this solemn ceremony represented the Military Land Forces Academy, the Polish Air Forces Academy, the Polish Naval Academy and the Faculty of Military Medicine of the Medical University in Lodz. The future doctors, navigators, mechanical and IT engineers, pilots and commanders of armoured and mechanised corps, and artillery troops gathered on Westerplatte and met with their family members, who attended the event in great numbers. The pride of their parents, who received many congratulations, was accompanied by joy and emotions as they saw their loved ones on their first and well-earned although short leave from the military service. In a few days, the cadets will start their 5-years' time of intensive work. - After this ceremony, you will become the fulfilled and satisfied soldiers. May the inscription engraved on this Memorial to the Defenders of Westerplatte "No more war" guide you all along your military service - said Rear Admiral Czeslaw Dyrcz (PhD, Eng), Rector and Commander of the Polish Naval Academy during the oath taking ceremony in Gdansk.
