Favourable outcome for July and the seven months

03.08.2004

July proved to be another successful month when it comes to cargo handling volumes and, a holiday season notwithstanding, the Port of Gdansk saw a total volume of a wide range of cargo handled at a rate of 2,076,177 tonnes, which over the seven months of 2004 gives a total outcome of 13,649,714 tonnes. As compared with still favourable results reported for the corresponding seven months of the year 2003, the figures show a growth of 1,195,762 tonnes of cargo handled.

It seems "traditional" indeed that a major share comprised fuels that amounted to 1,084,807 tonnes (164,224 tonnes more vs. July last year) and coal - 624,009 tonnes (232,050 tonnes more as compared to July 2003). A favourable handling rate had been maintained in terms of general cargo - 160,706 tonnes. In this regard, the container throughput is worthwhile mentioning: in July, Gdansk Container Terminal handled 3,691 TEU, whilst the results for July 2003 amounted to 1,643 TEU. In total, over the seven months of this year, Gdansk Container Terminal had handled 20,441 TEU, whereas in the whole year of 2003 this volume had reached 19,855 TEU. Another issue worth emphasizing is a handling rate in the group "other bulk" - in July this year this amounted to 185,533 tonnes.

The cargo handling figures recorded this year display a prevailing share of fuels that have already reached 7,451,272 handled tonnes. A relatively good rating has been also maintained in terms of coal throughput - 3,060,721 tonnes, as well as general cargo - 1,610,341 tonnes and "other bulk" - 1,394,865 tonnes. The aforementioned factors provide substantial grounds for hope of favourable whole-year handling results at the Port of Gdansk.

The figures on cargo handling volumes set out above, after the information from all quays have been compiled and completed, along with the archive data will be available on graphs in the "Cargo statistics" section.
