Chinese journalists at the Port of Gdansk

20.06.2008

A group of Chinese journalists - representing a wide-ranging spectre of media focusing on economic as well as cultural and social aspects - paid a brief visit to Gdansk. While visiting Poland - their schedule also including Warsaw, Wroclaw and Krakow - the journalists aim to get an insight of Poland's current business situation, prospects for investment cooperation and trade exchange.

On 18 June this year, the Chinese journalists also visited the Gdansk Port. During the presentation of the port as well as during the boat trip of the port facilities they asked questions concerning perspectives for change in cargo handling technologies and in the structure of cargoes processed, and also the cooperation with Chinese business partners. A number of questions were raised directly from earlier, mutual visits paid by representatives of the port authorities in Gdansk and Ningbo. The agreement signed in January 2008 in the aftermath of these meetings opens up new prospects for cooperation, which is expected to boost Gdansk's container throughput capacity and activate streams of containerised cargo from the Far East via Gdansk to the Baltic regions of Europe.

This objective was additionally served by the PGA SA participating in the "Asia Pacific Maritime 2008" Fairs in Singapore held in March this year and, most recently, in the "Transport Logistic China 2008" in Shanghai. Furthermore, the port's website has launched a Chinese-language version. It is our hope that all these meetings will enable the understanding of mutual needs and expectations, thus providing a solid foundation for long-term business relations.
