CMA CGM begins calling at DCT Gdansk

15.06.2007

On 6 June, with the arrival of the 1,400 TEU's feeder vessel "Cape Fulmar" at DCT Gdansk, CMA CGM - one of the world's three biggest ocean haulers - became the first major deep sea container operators to include Poland's brand-new port facility in its global connections network. "Cape Fulmar" is expected to make regular calls at DCT Gdansk as part of her weekly service on the route connecting four Hamburg-based container terminals with Gdynia, Klaipeda, and now also with DCT Gdansk.

Fred Kamperman, DCT Gdansk General Manager, informed that "Cape Fulmar" discharged twenty-seven 20-feet containers and six 40-feet containers, and loaded two 40-feet units.

Roman Lysik, Managing Director of Polish United Baltic Corporation Ltd, Agent of the CMA CGM Group in Poland, said: - "I am personally extremely happy to see CMA CGM being the very first deep sea carrier at DCT Gdansk. I must recall my speech given at DCT's End of the Pier Show, the party held to celebrate a key milestone in the completion of the land reclamation work, when I said that CMA would be the one to be first at DCT Gdansk. Our principals were first in both of Gdynia's terminals in the past and so it has happened in Gdansk as well."

Amongst the discharged containers were twenty-three pieces of 20-feet containers filled with steel products. The shipment from Xiamen in China had been implemented by Sea-Logistics Ltd in Gdynia, while further transportation within Poland will be handled by the Gdynia branch office of Rentrans Cargo Szczecin Ltd.

Sea-Logistics' CEO, Dr Tomasz Kubicki, is delighted to see the launching of the new terminal in Gdansk. - "With Polish trade is growing rapidly, we need world-class port facilities, if exports and imports are to be handled smoothly and efficiently. We at Sea-Logistics will be supporting DCT Gdansk and we look forward to handling many more shipments through this port."
