CMA/CGM at the Gdansk Container Terminal01.12.2010 Pomeranian entrepreneurs will certainly rejoice to see the launch of another regular container service to Western Europe. One of the major shipping carriers, CMA/CGM, has decided to open, in conjunction with Team Lines, a new container service on the route: Hamburg - Bremerhaven - Gdynia - Gdansk - Bremerhaven - Hamburg. Form 8 December 2010, every Wednesday, the Gdansk Container Terminal (GCT) will receive a call from one of the three ships operated on this line: MV Charlotta, MV Rijnborg and MV Thetis. Each of them can carry the load of about 1,700 TEUs at a time. While they vary in shape and construction, the ships are of similar length (about 170 metres), width (about 24 metres) and draught (about 7 metres). The new service will significantly boost the business offer provided by GCT SA. In addition to the lines such as Unifeeder, Team Lines and APL, which have been catered for so far, the regular service operated by CMA/CGM - a forerunner in terms of container industry in the Port of Gdansk - will greatly improve port's competitive edge. The trust and reputation built so far among the 39 world-renowned shipping carriers enable the Gdansk Container Terminal to enter its 13th year of operation with skill and confidence. However, it should be stressed that the Szczecinskie Quay operated by the Terminal can accommodate vessels with only up to 20,000 DWT. Such restrictions are not present in the newly-built DCT in the outer section of the port, which enables the handling in Gdansk of 12 container lines, covering both short sea shipping and ocean-going range. The thirteenth line now launched at the Gdansk Container Terminal strengthens the GCT's position on the Baltic container shipping market and confirms the demand for its growth. PGA SA PR Officer
