British investment projects at the Port of Gdansk

03.03.2003

On February 28, 2003, with the participation of the Governor of the Pomeranian Province - Jan Ryszard Kurylczyk and the City Mayor of Gdansk - Pawel Adamowicz, at the seat of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA, the agreement was signed by and between the Port of Gdansk Authority SA and a British investor of DCT Gdansk SA in relation to the long-term tenancy contract of the development grounds located in the Northern Port. This agreement will become effective as a tenancy contract after the approval has been granted by the Ministry of State Treasury.

The contract provides for the construction at the investor's costs of a container terminal inclusive of one Ro/Ro berth. The implementation time schedule has been divided into two phases. Phase I covers the construction of two vessel berths of which one Ro/Ro berth with the total handling capacity of 500 thousand TEU. Phase II includes the development of further berths with the purpose to reach the handling capacity of 1 million TEU. Majority of the terminal facilities will be founded on the dumping area i.e. artificially solidified land.

The terminal is planned to provide feeder and Ro/Ro services for vessels of up to 12 meters draught, however, according to the provisions of the contract the investor may perform the extension work that will lead to the improvement of the terminal parameters up to 15 meters draught to meet the demands of the shipping market.

The expenditure to secure the entire accomplishment of this investment project is estimated at USD 175 million.

The contract was signed by: on behalf of DCT Gdansk SA: Brian Craig, Robert Sinclair, James Sutcliffe; on behalf of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA: Andrzej Kasprzak - President of the Board and Zbigniew Perlinski - Vice-President of the Board.
