Cruise Europe at the Port of Gdansk17.01.2005 16 January this year saw the Port and the City of Gdansk playing host to a delegation of the international organization of Cruise Europe that comprises over 80 European ports. The organization provides the cruise liner companies with the information on ports offers, as well as on safety and environmental protection issues. The delegates arrived in the Tricity with the purpose of holding talks pertaining to the Baltic Cruise Project that provides for the promotional measures of tourists attractions in the Baltic Sea region. The visitors were received at Harbour Master's Office of the Northern Port, with the Vice President of the Board of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA - Zbigniew Perlinski taking the role of a host. Briefed by the Head of Shipping Development and Tariffs Department - Danuta Bilat on the ports up-to-date offer and the prospective developments, the guests were treated to refreshments at the observation tower gondola of the Harbour Master's Office that offered them a panoramic view of the port. Next the delegates paid a visit to the Westerplatte Ferry Terminal - a modern facility suited to handling passenger traffic at the Port of Gdansk. The closing item on the agenda comprised sightseeing the historic quarters of the city centre - Gdansk's major tourists attraction. This was conduced to by the exquisite weather conditions on the day. The delegates evinced much interest in the rapid growth in a number of calls made by cruise liners at the port in Gdansk, as well as the plans of further infrastructure expansion aimed to facilitate handling of cruise vessels. Not hiding their feelings, the visitors spoke in amazement about how impressed they were to see the sights of the city and the port.
