The cruise industry exhibition: Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention

04.04.2005

On March 15-17 this year, for the consecutive time, delegates of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA: Danuta Bilat - Head of Shipping Development and Tariffs Department along with Jerzy Bakowski - Senior Shipping Officer, took part in the international exhibition and conference serving the cruise industry, Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention that was held in Miami for the 21st consecutive time. The event is firmly recognized as the major promotional platform for establishing business relations and entering contracts. This year's edition drew the attendance of as many as 950 companies covering 100 countries: delegates representing cruise lines, ports, shipping agencies, tour operators and other cruise industry suppliers.

During the event, at the exhibition booth of the Polish Tourist Organization, the delegates of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA gave a presentation of the Port of Gdansk's offer designed for cruise liners. Additionally, the major attractions were highlighted of a thousand year old city of Gdansk, with its historical centre situated in the immediate vicinity of the port.

Similarly to the previous year, the offer was highly popular with the exhibitors and visitors to the event, which proved conducive to setting up new contacts. In future, they are likely to bring about an increased number of cruise liners calling at the Port of Gdansk. The evidence in support of the fact, that the port's intensified publicity measures aimed at attracting cruise liner traffic to the port, as well as the city of Gdansk and the entire Pomeranian region brings favourable effects, is a consistently rising number of cruise liners sailing into the Port of Gdansk. 33 calls of cruise ships have been notified for this summer season yet.
