DCT and the Port of Gdansk - the container gateway to Central Europe

14.10.2008

DCT Gdansk, Poland's deepwater container terminal, was celebrating the first anniversary of becoming operational. A solemn reception marking the occasion gathered a large number of guests representing forwarding companies and rail and shipping carriers such as Hapag-Lloyd, NYK, CMA CGM, Cosco, ZIM, Safmarine, Hyundai, Hamburg Sud, MOL, China Shipping and Maruba, as well as the delegation of Maersk Line. The arrival of a container carrier operated by this company and the efficient cargo handling operations added significance to the symbolic celebrations. As of December 1, Maersk will transfer all their operational activity to Gdansk, which is expected to be a spur for the launch of phase II of the DCT construction aimed to double its throughput capacity.

DCT Gdansk SA is a company registered in Poland, with the majority of shares owned by GIF II (Global Infrastructure Fund II) - a special fund managed by the Macquarie Group of Companies, with its head office based in Australia. The Gdansk terminal owned by the Group offers a year-round ice-free access for vessels of up to 15 metres draught and ensures superb conditions for setting up a port hub here. Three post-Panamax gantry cranes have the capacity of handling container vessels with 18 rows of containers on the decks. The terminal is additionally fitted with a Ro/Ro berth and a rail siding situated adjacent to the handling pier and the scheduled logistics centre. All these features and facilities render DCT Gdansk predestined to become an ideal gateway to the Polish as well as Central and Eastern European markets.
