DCT Gdansk SA was named "Best Direct Investor" in Poland

26.04.2007

DCT Gdansk SA, the developer of Poland's deepwater container terminal, was named "Best Direct Investor" in Poland. The award was bestowed by the British Polish Chamber of Commerce (BPCC) in the competition "BPCC Company of the Year Awards 2007". On behalf of the Company, DCT Gdansk's CEO Colin Chanter accepted the award from Martin Oxley, CEO of the BPCC, at the Warsaw-based Novotel hotel on Monday 23 April.

While the award is bestowed on the basis of direct investment between 1 March 2006 to 28 February 2007, it also takes into account indicators such as investments in research and development, company's social responsibility, employee development and training as well as environmental initiatives. The investment in DCT Gdansk, valued at EUR 180 million, is the largest investment in Poland's maritime infrastructure in the recent years.

Currently in the final stage of constructing its terminal, DCT Gdansk SA will significantly boost the seaborne trade to and from Central and Eastern Europe with its potential market of 300 million consumers. Upon completion of Phase One, a 36-hectar terminal pier with a 650-metre berth will be provided and equipped with three post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes and five rubber-tyre gantry cranes.

Construction of Phase One was begun in October 2005 and is due to completion in October this year. However, the terminal will become operational sooner than that as its first container carrier is expected on 1 June 2007.

Commenting on the award, Mr. Chanter said: "It is gratifying to receive such welcome recognition of our commitment to Gdansk - and indeed Poland - a whole month before our container terminal handles its first ship. With the invaluable assistance of our friends at the Port Authority of Gdansk, we are proud to be playing such an important role in facilitating Poland's increasing trade with the rest of the world."

DCT Gdansk SA currently employs more than 70 people, mainly from the Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot "Tricity" area.
