Delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Port of Gdansk

22.05.2015

On May 21st, the Port of Gdansk, together with representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development and the Pomeranian voivodeship Marshal's Office, welcomed a four-person delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan, represented by Ahmad Ismayilov (head of staff at the Maritime Office in Azerbaijan), Farhad Mammadova (head of the department of law, personnel resources and international relations) along with representatives from the department of international cooperation (Elchin Ganjaliyev) and the department of IT and media (Ayaz Azimov).

The visit of the delegation from Azerbaijan was closely linked to the ceremonial signing of a bilateral agreement between the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Azerbaijan, which took place in Warsaw the day before, regarding cooperation between the two countries in the area of shipping.

The agreement also marks the beginning of a joint Polish-Azerbaijani venture for the development of international shipping and to respect the principles of safety and protection of the marine environment. As representatives of the Ministry assured, it was also an act that will initiate cooperation with Azerbaijan in other areas of the maritime economy.

This short visit to the Port of Gdansk was an opportunity to present our guests with some information about the port, its business, investment projects and potential development scenarios in the years to come.
As Mr Jerzy Melaniuk - Vice-President of the Infrastructure Department of ZMPG SA - emphasised in his speech, "it is a great honour to host such distinguished guests who see real potential in Polish-Azerbaijani cooperation, particularly in terms of the maritime economy. Yesterday you signed a cooperation agreement, and just one day later here we are at what can be considered as our first working meeting. That's precisely what this contract is all about."

At the end of the visit, from the tower of the Northern Port Harbour Master's Office the guests were treated to the panorama of the outer parts of the Port of Gdansk and terminals located there. In memory of the visit to the port, the delegation along with the Port of Gdansk Authority SA represented by President Jerzy Melaniuk and the President of Naftoport Sp. z.o.o - Dariusz Kobierecki - together laid flowers under the plaque commemorating Polish-Azerbaijani friendship and the visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan from 1993-2003 to Poland - Mr. Haydar Aliyev.
