Directors of Copenhagen Malmö Port on a visit to Gdansk21.04.2009 On 15 April this year, the Port of Gdansk hosted Johan Röstin - CEO of the Copenhagen Malmö Port, accompanied by his deputy - Lennart Pettersson. Johan Röstin has been recently appointed to the position and he has chosen Gdansk - the seat of the Board of the Baltic Ports Organization - as the destination of his first trip, which will enable him to examine problems related to the shipping on the Baltic Sea. Currently, the office of the BPO Chairman is held by the PGA SA Marketing Director - Julian Skelnik.
The Copenhagen Malmö Port is co-owned by: the Danish city of Copenhagen (55%), the Swedish city of Malmö (25%) and private investors (20%). In 2008, the company generated profit to the amount of EUR 20 million. Investments in rail and container facilities currently under way in Copenhagen are aimed at improving the port's capacity of up to 500 percent. Over the last year, car terminals in Malmö and Copenhagen, which are leased to Toyota, handled 450 thou. and 300 thou. cars respectively. These ports are also characterized by the intensive ferry traffic.
Directors Röstin and Pettersson listened with interest to the Port of Gdansk business offer introduced by the PGA SA management, headed by the President of the Board - Ryszard Strzyzewicz. During the presentation of the current activities and port development plans, and while visiting port quays, the guests paid special attention to the potential related to container and Ro/Ro traffic operations. Considerable interest was additionally aroused by land earmarked for investment at the disposal of the Gdansk port. The delegates from Scandinavia were also received by the CEO of DCT Gdansk SA - Boris Wenzel. The meeting brought about a declaration of long-term co-operation. The very facts that Maersk named DCT as the location of its operations centre and launched here its open feeder services are strong evidence of the promising perspectives for setting up in Gdansk a container trans-shipment hub for Central Europe.
