Duisburg economic mission at the Port of Gdansk

30.08.2010

The economic mission of the German city of Duisburg visited the Port of Gdansk. Situated on the river Rhine, Duisburg is the biggest inland harbour in the world and at the same time - after Hamburg and Bremenhaven - our western neighbour's third biggest port in terms of cargo throughput. It handles over 110 million tonnes of goods annually, which is twice the volume processed by all Polish ports in total. On 26th August 2010, business representatives of the Rhine area met with the leaders of the port industry of Gdansk and Gdynia. A jointly held conference as well as companies' presentations aimed to provide all parties with better recognition of opportunity for cooperation. The discussions focused on both the current privatisation process of the Gdansk port's major operator, "Port of Gdansk Cargo Logistics", and on the conditions of investing in independent terminals in the Port of Gdansk. The catalyst that prompted the German partners' interest in business opportunities offered in Gdansk was the announcement of the tendering procedure for the operator of a gigantic 186-hectare logistics centre coming to a close.
