Experts of the European Commission paid a visit to the Port of Gdansk

24.11.2005

On November 22, 2005, the Port of Gdansk was visited by experts of the European Commission's Food and Veterinary Office (FVO): Judith Manhartd-Welbers and Ingus Celms arriving for the appraisal mission aimed at the assessment of imports control system and border veterinary inspection posts in Poland. The main objective of visiting the Port was the assessment of the border veterinary inspection post provided at the Wislane Quay, as regards conformity with the legal regulations of the European Union.

Summarizing the outcome of the visit, the leader of the FVO group of experts Judith Manhartd-Welbers, in the presence of representatives of the Central Veterinary Inspectorate and the Port of Gdansk Authority SA, made a very high assessment of the construction quality of the border veterinary inspection post, completeness and high standard of technical equipment and devices as well as their conformity with the legal regulation of the European Union. Subsequently to that assessment, the experts declared that in their report on the appraisal visit they will recommend the European Commission to enter the Port of Gdansk border veterinary inspection post into the list of the EU approved border veterinary inspection posts.

In consideration of the binding procedures on entering a post into the list published in the EU Journal of Laws, it is expected that the border veterinary inspection of animal products imported from the third countries will be commenced in January 2006.
