Finnish delegates at the Port of Gdansk

25.03.2009

On 24 March this year, the Port of Gdansk was hosting delegates representing Finnish maritime economy: Professor Juhani Vainio - Director of the Centre for Maritime Studies in Turku, Jaakko Nirhamo - Director of the Port of Pori and Hannu Asumalahti - Director and CEO of the Port of Rauma. The Centre for Maritime Studies, part of the University of Turku, is a highly influential organization forming opinions through its academic teaching and research as well as providing expert services to the maritime sector in Finland. The Port of Pori ranks among Finland's major bulk ports, with its last year's turnover amounting to 4.5 million tonnes of cargo. The Port of Rauma specializes in the handling of paper and processed over 7 million tonnes of cargo in 2008.

The visitors from Finland were received by Julian Skelnik - PGA SA Marketing Director, who gave an introduction of the Port of Gdansk, and Sylwia Sobolewska - PGA SA Management Board Office Director. The delegates expressed their interest first and foremost in port development perspectives. The talks also touched upon the port's hinterland and the importance of eastern markets, including Ukraine.

Following the reception at the PGA SA head office, the delegates visited container terminals operating at the Port of Gdansk and enjoyed the panoramic view from the Harbour Master's Office tower in the Northern Port.
