Flanders-Polish seminar in Gdansk31.08.2004 On 26-28 August this year, Gdansk was hosting the Flanders-Polish seminar on port business supported by EDI (electronic data interchange). The meeting was held under the project called GEPICS - Seagha bankrolled by the government of Flanders. The project aims at an improved efficiency of information transfer among the participants of the port-based circulation in Gdansk using the electronic data interchange.
The seminar was attended by foreign representatives of the company of Seagha, the Port of Antwerp Authority, National Institute for Transport and Logistics in Ireland and the consulting company of MCC. On behalf of the Polish party represented were the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Economy and Labour, Chamber of Customs, Maritime Institute, Port of Gdansk Authority SA, Port of Gdansk Cargo Logistics Ltd, Gdansk Container Terminal Co. and the company of Infoport. Numbered among the invited guests were such personalities as Commercial Director of the Port of Antwerp Authority Mr. Georges Leysen, NITL Director of Consulting Mr. Randal Faulkner, Director of the Maritime Transport Department Ms. Janina Mentrak, Director of Social and Economic Information Centre Mr. Zygmunt Bienko, Director of Development and Infrastructure at the Port of Gdansk Authority SA Mr. Ryszard Wocial, Director of the Commercial Office at the Port of Gdansk Authority SA Ms. Grazyna Kita and Commercial Director of Port of Gdansk Cargo Logistics Ltd Mr. Marcin Bulski.
The seminar was hosted, on behalf of the foreign visitors by Mr. Martin Van Houtte of the MCC company, and representing the hosts and promoters - Chief IT Engineer of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA Mr. Jerzy Sukiennik. The agenda of the seminar included a large number of presentations and panel discussions mainly concerning the IT solutions implemented in the area of the port of Antwerp, as well as the prospective development projects and the use of the IT technology at the Port of Gdansk. Notwithstanding the scope of issues under consideration, many presentations and panel discussions diverted from the technological matters and referred to arrangements in the capacity of flow and access to information. The meeting turned out of considerable interest and provided a creative forum where to exchange experiences and opinions which gives the participants better understanding of the objectives under the project GEPICS - Seagha.
On the concluding day, at a close of the meeting, the foreign visitors were invited on a boat trip around the Port of Gdansk. Playing the role of a host was Vice-President of the Board of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA Mr. Zbigniew Perlinski. Additionally, the guests had an opportunity to visit a vantage gallery situated on top of the tower of the Harbour Master's Office at the Northern Port.
