World's one and only floating apartment building called
at the Port of Gdansk

27.07.2007

On 26 July this year, the Oliwskie Quay berthed "The World" - a luxurious apartment building at sea for super-reach. "The World" is one of the biggest ships among the rapidly growing number of cruise vessels arriving at the Port of Gdansk. Built in 2003, it is 196 metres long, with a displacement tonnage of 43.5 thou. tonnes. It offers 198 residential units serviced by 320 staff. Each year, the vessel's management makes up an itinerary and its residents spend a hundred days in a year at the open sea.

Studios and apartments range from 31 m2 (one bedroom with bathroom, restroom and veranda) to 301 m2 (three bedrooms, two bathrooms, three restrooms, dining-room to sit 10 people, kitchen and terrace with jacuzzi). The most expensive suite costs 6.3 million dollars.

While cruising the seas, the residents have nine decks at their disposal, offering conference halls with satellite internet access, reading room and boutiques. Sport enthusiasts can enjoy such amenities as a tennis court, golf club, fitness club or treadmill. At the residents' disposal, there is also a swimming pool, jacuzzi and a health spa as well as a theater hall, museum and a chapel.

"The World" is scheduled to leave Gdansk on 29 July.
