New gantry crane put into service at the Gdansk Container Terminal

24.07.2007

On 19 July this year, a new quayside gantry crane was put into operation at the Gdansk Container Terminal. It was manufactured by the world's biggest producer of port-dedicated cargo handling equipment, the Chinese company of "Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co. Ltd".

The gantry crane is 54 metres in height. Its outreach over the water is 38 metres and over the quay - 23 metres. The crane is suited to the handling of all types of containers. Its lifting capacity for a single container is 40 tonnes. The crane can lift a load of 60 tonnes on its hoisting hook.

The first container carrier that has been handled with the use of the new equipment was "OOCL Nevskiy" - operating under the SBX1 service. On 19 July, the vessel discharged 63 and loaded 34 containers.

The new gantry crane that has now been put into service at the Szczecinskie Quay will improve the quality of services offered by the Gdansk Container Terminal and boost significantly its throughput rates.
