Gdansk Container Terminal has exceeded last year's cargo
turnover24.11.2006 The rapid growth in the Gdansk Container Terminal cargo turnover proves impressive. Though not great in size, the Terminal has been constantly increasing its cargo turnover over the last few years. Not so long ago, the figures oscillated around 20 thou. TEU, then in 2004 they reached the mark of 41,184 TEU and finally in 2005 - 69,075 TEU. Similarly this year, based on previous experience and ship arrival notification, an increased turnover volume has been forecasted. The estimates have proved accurate as, long before the year-end, the Gdansk Container Terminal has exceeded last year's cargo turnover. On 23 November this year, at 1520 hrs, the container ship "Carina" operating under Containerships service announced its arrival at the Port of Gdansk roadstead. Until 0830 hrs of the following day, upon the completion of cargo handling operations, an overall export/import volume of 547 TEU was recorded, whereas in general, since the beginning of the year, the Gdansk Container Terminal has already processed 69,137 TEU, thus exceeding the 2005 record-breaking cargo turnover volumes. This has been brought about owing to the outstanding performance of the entire Gdansk Container Terminal crew as well as the efforts of the Port of Gdansk Cargo Logistics employees. According to Marek Czernowski, the Port of Gdansk Chief Dispatcher, the successful results achieved thus far combined with the expected number of calls from vessels allow to estimate that an overall annual cargo turnover will reach the level of 76 thou. TEU.
