Gdansk Economic Development Agency - the port priority16.12.2008 Mayor of the City of Gdansk, Pawel Adamowicz, has signed a long-awaited founding act to establish the Gdansk Economic Development Agency (GEDA). The project, which was endorsed at the last session of the City Council, opens up the perspective of acquiring investors interested in locating their operations in Gdansk and in the Gdansk Metropolitan Area. GEDA will initially focus on the development of two highly attractive plots of land. The area of 51 hectares situated in the close vicinity of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport has been designated for the construction of "Maszynowa" Industrial and Technology Park. Along Nowatorow Street, the Municipality intends to cluster companies operating in research and development of advanced technologies, with the supporting conditions of a special economic zone. The land situated between the DCT Gdansk SA and the Sucharski Route has been earmarked for the construction of the "Pomeranian Logistics Centre". Pursuant to the agreement made by the Gdansk Municipality and the Port of Gdansk Authority SA, GEDA will generate conditions for the project covering an area of 186 hectares of municipal land and the necessary port area. Besides the obvious benefits resulting from the economic activation of the region, the Municipality expects the projects to create a thousand new jobs and to bring annual revenues of many millions of zloty from new operations. Locating investment projects related to maritime transport, launching distribution and storage operations and providing a new port free zone in the vicinity of the port is expected to significantly boost the position of the port as well as its turnover.
