06.11.2003

On November 5, this year, Secretary David Jamieson of Great Britain's Ministry of Transport paid a visit to the Port of Gdansk, part of his two-day's visit to the Tricity. The visitors coming to the Port Master's Office, including, among others, City Mayor of Gdansk Pawel Adamowicz, received a welcome from Andrzej Kasprzak, President of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA. While presenting the Port of Gdansk, Andrzej Kasprzak emphasized the participation of British developers in port's expansion plans bringing up the initialed agreement between the Port of Gdansk Authority SA and DCT. Under this agreement the British developer shall undertake, at a cost of about USD 175 million, the constriction of a container terminal at the Port of Gdansk.

Secretary David Jamieson thanked for the invitation and expressed his conviction that, not before long, the Port of Gdansk will acquire a new investment developed by the British company.

Ryszard Wocial, Director for Development and Infrastructure introduced the Port of Gdansk to the visitors. He presented port's present business activity and plans concerning the development of infrastructure. R. Wocial focused on those aspects of the plans that are related to Poland's accession to the European Union and to its budget and, at the same time, those connected to the implementation of Priority Programme with regard to Trans-European Transportation Corridor No. 6 North - South and the projects that contribute to the development of the inner port and were included in Sector Operation Programme. Plans concerning the development of land infrastructure and connections with port infrastructure were introduced by a representative of the Provincial Governor's Office. At the end of their visit, the guests took part in a sightseeing tour round the Port of Gdansk onboard a speed boat.
