Guests from Ukraine02.12.2011 On November 30th, the Port of Gdansk saw a visit from members of local governments from Odessa, Kherson and Mykolaiv invited to Gdansk by the mayor of the city. The weather encouraged a stroll to the Westerplatte Monument to the Defenders of the Coast. The agenda of the study visit also included a multimedia presentation of the port handling capacity delivered at a vantage gondola of the Harbour Master's Office in the Northern Port. On June 7th 1996, an agreement was concluded in Odessa about broad cooperation with Gdansk. It pertained to sharing experiences of city management, local government operations, to spatial planning, public transport solutions, cultural, industrial and trade exchange as well as port and maritime economy. Odessa can boasts Ukraine's largest sea port. The nature of the port and its turnover structure resembles the one of the Port in Gdansk. The Ukrainian guests' interests in stages and conditions of the Gdansk port development and in the dynamics of container services expansion was also in line with Ukraine's EU accession attempts. It is therefore very likely that the relationship of the two cities as well as that of the economies of the Pomorskie region and Odessa Oblast will keep intensifying . PGA SA PR Officer |
