Haifa - like Gdansk - was founded at a river estuary flowing into the sea

13.09.2011

The City of Gdansk authorities hosted a group of delegates from Haifa on their return visit to Gdansk. The delegation was headed by its city mayor of eight years, Mr. Yona Yahav, and accompanied by representatives of Israeli diplomacy. On the second day of their stay in Gdansk, the guests visited the Port of Gdansk, among other places. The capital of northern Israel, like Gdansk in the Pomeranian region, is a strong industrial centre.

The state-of-the-art port facility handles a third of Israel's total turnover and - like the port in Gdansk - has a significant role in the economic growth of the entire country. Additionally, a refinery has been built in the port's vicinity, and the world-renowned brands representing a variety of sectors have made investments on the land in the port's direct hinterland. An interest developed in the prospects of the port facility on the Baltic Sea came as a natural consequence of the open-minded visions and concepts adopted for the economic growth of the city and its port on the Mediterranean Sea.
