Heavy pieces at the quays of the Port of Gdansk

09.03.2004

On March 4, this year, at the Szczecinskie Quay, 3 components of a structure were handled (a transmission gear complete with equipment), of which one weighed 106 tonnes. For the purpose of this operation, a floating crane owned by the Gdansk Ship Repairs Yard "Remontowa" was used, with a lifting capacity of 200 tonnes. The structures had been carried from Elblag by river, by means of a pontoon, and then loaded onto the Danish vessel of "Faxborg". The cargo shall be shipped to Hamburg, and then to China.

Another interesting operation was carried out the following day at the Obroncow Westerplatte Quay. A number of 6 brewery tanks of 33.5 tonnes each were discharged from the Norwegian vessel of "Hege". The discharging onto the yard was performed by means of the floating crane DP-15 with a lifting capacity of 63 tonnes, serviced by the company of PUPiM WUZ Ltd. The tanks had been shipped from Rotterdam and are appropriated for the Warka Breweries. Upon their loading onto pontoons, the tanks shall be carried by river. A similar operation took place a year ago at the Szczecinskie Quay, when the handling was operated by a mobile harbour crane with a lifting capacity of 100 tonnes.

Both operations were handled by the Port of Gdansk Cargo Logistics Ltd employees, whilst the cargo forwarding was provided by the company of Port Consultants.
