Interchange of electronic data at the Port of
Gdansk14.02.2005 At the Port of Gdansk, the implementation is currently under way of the IT project GEPICS-Seagha using the standards of automated interchange of EDIFACT and XML electronic data. It is set out to improve the circulation efficiency of data among participants of the port turnover in Gdansk. The project is financially aided by the government of Flanders along with the company of Seagha, with minor financial involvement of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA. Seagha is a company boasting a wide range of experience in running the automated interchange of electronic data (EDI) at the Port of Antwerp. The project implementation additionally involves such companies as Port of Gdansk Cargo Logistics and Infoport. The GEPICS project enables the acquaintance with advanced data flow organisation in one of the major European ports and its vicinity, as well as the implementation of comparable solutions in the Gdansk Port area. Currently, the development of organisation and technological concept is under way of the EDI data interchange centre at the Gdansk Container Terminal with the purpose of examining the concept in practical terms. Year 2005 has been scheduled to launch the operation of the active EDI data interchange from the Gdansk Container Terminal, and also between the Port of Gdansk Authority SA and the Maritime Office in Gdynia. Another stage, following completion of the present project, will comprise the organisation of EDI data interchange for the entire Port of Gdansk. |
