Jerzy Melaniuk appointed to supervise the port infrastructure

19.06.2012

The task of expanding a port facility and its technical infrastructure proves to be a particularly difficult one in the thousand years old city of Gdansk. This mission was entrusted to an engineer, graduate of the Gdansk University of Technology, having many years of experience in academic teaching at the GUT Institute of Hydro-Engineering and at the Swedish University of Agricultural Science in Uppsala. His scientific and research work, greatly appreciated with numerous awards from the Rector of the Gdansk University of Technology, has been successfully tested in practical terms as the newly appointed Chief of Infrastructure in the Gdansk port cooperated with a wide range of companies implementing major geotechnical and hydro-engineering investment projects in Poland and Germany. Working for the London-based shipping carrier Mayfair Shipping Limited, Jerzy Melaniuk had the opportunity of gaining valuable insight into the expectations and requirements placed on seaports by shipping companies. During the nearly forty years of his professional career, he has frequently worked in close touch with the Port of Gdansk. Most recently, he has held the position of Member of the Board in the Oil Pipeline Operation Company "Przyjazn" SA overseeing investment projects, oil and fuel transmission as well as safe operation of the grid. His experience in managing large-scale business entities has been confirmed with an MBA diploma.

Privately, Jerzy Melaniuk is a resident of Gdansk, showing a lively interest in the region's economic policy, as well as in the nature of Pomerania and sports activities. For many years, he volunteered working as a Member of the Board and Vice President in one of the Gdansk-based sports clubs. He is married with two children.
