June on the port quays

09.07.2004

June this year saw Gdansk port workers handle a volume of 1,711,230 tonnes of various cargoes. As had been the rule over the last months - the largest share comprised liquid fuels that accounted for 820,622 tonnes.

Total volume of liquid fuels handled in the year 2004 amounted to 6,366,465 tonnes. Coal accounted for 534,719 tonnes that is nearly as much as the results recorded in June 2003. However, over the first six months of this year, a volume of 2,436,622 tonnes was handled i.e. over 1.1 million tonnes less than in the corresponding six months of the year 2003. The group "other bulk" accounted for 166,905 tonnes which gives this year's overall volume of 1,209,332 tonnes of these cargoes. The growing general cargo throughput has proved highly satisfactory. In June this year it amounted to 158,802 tonnes, whilst over the whole six-month period of 2004, a volume of 1,449,635 tonnes had been recorded. These results are accompanied by the grain cargo handling that in June ran at 29,121 tonnes.

The aggregate of various cargoes handled by the Gdansk port workers during the first six months of 2004 had totaled 11,573,537 tonnes. This result shows a growth by nearly 820 thou. tonnes as compared to the corresponding six months in 2003, thus maintaining the cargo handling volumes that have been recorded hitherto indicates the possibility of exceeding the threshold of over 22 million tonnes in the whole year 2004.

The figures on cargo handling volumes set out above, after the information from all quays have been compiled and completed, along with the archive data will be available on graphs in the "Cargo handling" section.
