"Kujawy" in the Port of Gdansk

02.09.2005

August 29 this year saw the bulk-cargo carrier "Kujawy" enter the Port of Gdansk, thus making its first call ever in the Polish port.

"Kujawy" is one of the two twin bulk-cargo carriers handed over this year to the Polish Steamship Company - Polsteam by the Chinese shipyard Xingang in Tianjin. The third bulk-cargo carrier in the series of eight - "Podhale" - is currently being fitted with equipment, whilst the fourth one - "Warmia" is at the hull construction stage. The ordering of the ships is part of the process that has been under implementation by the Polish Steamship Company since the year 2003 and aims at replacing the fleet of well-worn bulk-cargo carriers with the 20 newbuilt vessels.

"Kujawy" is a 190-meter long and 28,5-meter wide vessel with the capacity of shipping over 37 thou. tons of ore, coal, fertilizers, grain, phosphates and other bulk cargo. Having sailed to the Port of Gdansk from Casablanca, it brought over 35 thou. tons of phosphates in its holds. The carrier had been discharged from the cargo at the Chemikow Quay.
