Learning and practising - an alliance of measurable benefits

02.04.2014

A favourable opinion of last year's experiences has led the authorities of the Gdansk University's Faculty of Economics and Port of Gdansk Authority SA to sign a permanent cooperation agreement. On 1 April 2014, on behalf of the Board of PGA SA the agreement was signed by Ms Dorota Raben, President of the Board, and Mr Jerzy Melaniuk Vice-President of the Board. In signing the agreement the University was represented by Associate Professor Krzysztof Dobrowolski, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, and Associate Professor Hanna Klimek, Director of the Institute of Maritime Transport and Seaborne Trade.

On the one hand, the objective of the agreement is to continue cooperation including research and development projects implemented by academic units of the Gdansk University's Faculty of Economics to the benefit of the Port of Gdansk. On the other hand, lectures given by the port's experienced managers and a traineeship programme for selected students will result in improving the quality of education for future maritime economy human resources.

The curriculum covers issues concerning the operation of ports in the conditions of international competition, aspects of implementing projects partially funded by the European Union, visions of prospects for the port and environment protection, port services' operations, port and ships security, and legal rules applicable to port administration. Apart from a wide spectrum of lectures, students will be given an opportunity to take part in industry symposia, trade shows and conferences as well as in study visits to the port. Both the Port of Gdansk and the University believe that the agreement will result in measurable benefits.
