Meeting of the PGA SA Supervisory Board
The Gdansk port in the hands of a woman

07.06.2013

At a meeting held on 7 June 2013, the PGA SA Supervisory Board adjudicated the qualification procedure supplementing the management of the Gdansk port. The position of President of the Management Board was entrusted into the hands of Dorota Raben and the position of Vice President of the Management Board for Financial Matters was bestowed onto Marek Pietruszewski. Additionally, the term in office for the new composition of the Management Board was scheduled to commence as of 15 July 2013. Until that date, the Management Board will continue as a one-person board headed by Jerzy Melaniuk, who has so far held the position of Vice President for Infrastructure.

For the first time in its history, the Gdansk port was entrusted into the hands of a woman. Dorota Raben is a graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. She spent 23 years of her professional life working for logistics, consultancy-training and management companies, constantly improving her qualifications at the Western-European universities. She is an expert in supply chains and personal consultancy. While searching for her favourite place on earth - speaking about herself today - I'm trying to do everything that makes sense... keeping in mind, however, a touch of craziness, which is indispensible in the contemporary world.

Marek Pietruszewski has systematically taken advantage of his education in economy and also in engineering while pursuing his professional career since he graduated from the Lublin University of Technology in 1996. His responsibilities required constant attention to money flow on the international markets, providing a natural drive for his MBA study in Bristol and Paris, and recently a Ph.D. study in the Faculty of Management and Marketing at the Warsaw School of Economics. In addition to my experience gained on the rapidly growing financial market, the most important to me - as he claims himself - is to attain a full agreement among all members of the board concerning projects and directions for development.

The most difficult task presented by the port which is one thousand years old consists in the maintenance and expansion of its technical infrastructure and will continue to be the responsibility of Jerzy Melaniuk, an engineer, a graduate and former member of the faculty of the Gdansk University of Technology. His accomplishments in research and development, widely recognized and awarded by the Rector of the University of Gdansk, have been put into practice as he has continued his professional career working for companies developing major investment projects in the field of geotechnical and marine engineering across Poland and Germany. While working for the London-based shipping company Mayfair Shipping Limited, he had an opportunity of getting a comprehensive insight of the requirements placed on ports by shipping companies. During the nearly 40 years of his professional career, he has requently cooperated with the Port of Gdansk. As of recent, in the capacity of a member of the board of the PERN Oil Pipeline Operation Company "Przyjazn" SA - he has supervised investment projects, transmission of oil and fuels, as well as the safety and security of grids operation. His experience in managing major companies was additionally complemented by his MBA diploma. The ability of team work management makes it possible to find the time for developing his interests in nature and sports (for many years he has headed a well-known Gdansk-based sports club as community service), and also - being a loyal Gdansk resident - working on the economic policy of the region.
