Modernisation of quay in the Port Free
Zone03.02.2005 The WOC II Quay in the Port Free Zone at the Port of Gdansk is currently undergoing intensified modernisation work. Phase I of the construction work has just come to a close at over 300-metre quay, which comprised both the upgrades to quays alone, as well as to their surfaces.
The work resulted in but was not limited to a Ro-Ro ramp that will enable the handling of Ro-Ro vessels equipped with their own mobile ramp, whilst, in the nearest future, a steel-made mobile ramp is to be provided suited to loading and discharging cargoes from Ro-Ro ships on approach roads. Hydrotechnical and road engineering work has been performed by the Construction Corporation Doraco Ltd selected by way of tender proceedings. The acceptance of construction work is presently under way thus an extended coverage of the development will be brought up again at a later stage.
The cost of work carried out at the WOC II Quay is some PLN 12 million and makes up merely a proportion of a wide-ranging repairs and investment plan in the area of the Inner Port, set out to accommodate this part of the port to modern technologies and to enhance its attractiveness in the eyes of prospective investors. Let us bring to mind that Phase II of the work had been included in one of the four projects under Sectoral Operation Programme - Transport. This project is aimed at improved approaches to the Port Free Zone at the Port of Gdansk covering access roads, as well as maneuvering and parking yards. The cost of Phase II of the work will be co-financed from the European Union budget and amounts to PLN 52 million.
