New Border Veterinary Inspection Post in the Port of Gdansk

22.01.2010

On Wednesday, 20th January 2010, Presidents of the PGA SA Management Board Ryszard Strzyzewicz and Slawomir Wrzesniak and the Deputy Governor of the Pomeranian Region, Michal Owczarczak, signed with the Border Veterinary Surgeon in Gdansk, Dariusz Walecki, the right to use contract of a newly built Border Veterinary Inspection Post in the Northern Port.

On the invitation jointly extended by PGA SA and Andzelika Cieslowska, President of the Board of Korporacja Budowlana DORACO, the contractor of the facility, the ceremony was attended, among other guests, by the CEO of Deepwater Container Terminal Gdansk, which is adjacent to the Border Veterinary Inspection Post.
- It will be our clients - confirmed Boris Wenzel - who will first benefit from the comfort of improved and more efficient border veterinary control procedures required for goods at the European Union border. Our thanks for the organisational effort and timely completion of the project are due to both PGA SA Management Board and Korporacja Budowlana DORACO.

The construction of the facility was commenced in June last year and completed 6 months later. The post is currently undergoing certification inspections and procedures conducted by experts of the European Commission's Food and Veterinary Office. Upon their completion, the new Border Veterinary Inspection Post will be entered into the register of EU border veterinary inspection posts. The facility is expected to become operational by the end of the first quarter of this year. A similar procedure was underway four years ago, when the Border Veterinary Inspection Post at the Wislane Quay was launched. At that time, the quality of construction and the equipment standard of the facility were highly assessed by the experts. The new BVIP in the Northern Port is significantly larger. The area designated for veterinary checks is twice the size and the parking and service yards are three times bigger than those available at the Inner Port facility, which is mainly used by the Gdansk Container Terminal. The high performance efficiency of the new BVIP is additionally enhanced by providing separate, double stands for checking food and non-food products.
