New cargo and passenger service

24.01.2005

6 February 2005 will see the inauguration of a new cargo and passenger Ro-Ro service on the route Gdansk-Karlshamn with calls to be made at Klaipeda. The service is going to be operated by MV "Kaunas" vessel sailing under the Lithuanian flag and owned by the Danish shipowner DFDS TorLine. The shipowner provides for calls at Gdansk to be scheduled on a weekly basis, however, he has already announced that, along with the expansion of the service, an increased frequency of calls can be expected.

A large-sized vessel, MV "Kaunas" is 190.9 metres in length, with a load line of 1,539 metres and a 6.5 metres drought. The ship is capable of carrying 263 passengers at a time.

The introduction of this cargo and passenger service is a partial implementation of the DFDS announcement of a return to passenger traffic services. MV "Kaunas" will make calls under the PolBridge service at the Westerplatte Ferry Terminal and will replace the Ro-Ro ship "Tango" that has been handled there to date and owned by the same shipowner.
