New container liner service in the Port of Gdansk

12.09.2001

On September 12 2001 the Gdansk Container Terminal was host of the first out of the three vessels to facilitate the new container line service operated by Iberia Scan Express Service (ISX) in the Port of Gdansk.

The container line service at the Gdansk Container Terminal will be operating weekly (every Wednesday) on regular basis. The ISX line service was established as a result of joint efforts made by the ship owners of OOCL (Orient Overseas Container Line) and MISC (Malaysia International Shipping Corporation) and will be serviced by two MISC vessels of 736 TEU each and a single OOCL vessel of 660 TEU.

As a benefit of conducting the new line service, the Port of Gdansk will develop new shipment links with the following ports: Bilbao, Leixoes, Lisbon, Le Verdon, Antwerp, Southampton, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Aarhus and Gothenburg. According to the rotation schedule for ships, Gdansk remains the last disembarkation port on the Baltic Sea, whereas the containers destined for St. Petersburg and Finland are to be handled at the Gdansk Container Terminal. Bearing in mind a year's co-operation maintained in Gdansk with SBX regular services, the launch of a new service will constitute a milestone towards a new role played by the Port of Gdansk in terms of container transshipment.
