New ro-ro cargo connection Gdansk - Copenhagen - Goeteborg

On September 1, 2004, DFDS Tor Line opens a new ro-ro cargo service under the commercial name of "PolBridge", with two calls at the Port of Gdansk weekly.

The ro-ro vessel will operate the route from Gdansk directly to the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen and farther on to Goeteborg, Sweden.

The ship is scheduled to berth at the quay of the Westerplatte Ferry Terminal where, until November 2003, DFDS Seaways had operated the passenger and cargo line.

DFDS expects that it will maintain the capacity to continue providing services to freight customers who earlier on had used the connection for shipping cargoes between Poland and the Nordic Countries.

The schedule of voyages has been designed to enable the handling of cargoes from Poland destined for the UK from the new service directly on board vessels operating the DFDS Tor Line service bearing the name of "AngloBridge" that offers 16 connections weekly between Goeteborg on the one hand and Immingham and Harwich in the UK on the other. The time needed for covering the route from Gdansk to each of the above-mentioned English ports is 60 hrs.

Besides trucks, semitrailers, passenger cars and other vehicles, the new line offers shipment of oversize cargoes and heavy pieces, utilising the shipowner's equipment. The possibility will be provided of handling cargoes of the sort onto the vessels owned by DFDS Tor Line, which sail from Goeteborg to Gent, Belgium and Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It is expected that this attractive solution will raise considerable interest, particularly following January 1, 2005 when Germany introduces a toll for using roads (MAUT) of EUR 0.12 per each kilometer covered by a vehicle with a capacity of 12 tonnes.
