Upgrading of the overbridge in the course of the Sucharski Route17.01.2002 In the course of the Sucharski Route, the upgrading, or rather, the development works of a new overbridge situated near the "Ku Ujsciu" traffic node are approaching the completion. This investment is a part of the transportation system of the Port of Gdansk and the eastern side of the Inner Port. Together with the suspension bridge and the tunnel under the Martwa Wisla it will constitute a section of the Sucharski Route presently under construction.
The works were commenced as a result of a bad technical condition of the previously operating overbridge, as well as the need to adjust its parameters to those characteristic of the entire Route (bearing capacity of 50 t, similar to the suspension bridge). Furthermore, the previous structure of the overbridge failed to facilitate the development of necessary railway and motor tracks towards the projected terminals at the Northern Port. Thus the decision was made not to carry out the upgrading works, but to launch a development of a new overbridge. The representatives of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA actively contributed to the designing works, as well as the establishing of parameters of the overbridge. This resulted in an extended length of the new overbridge and a smaller number of counterforts.
In the view of the limited financial resources supplied to the investment by the City of Gdansk and the strategic significance of the overbridge in terms of the port's development plans, the Port of Gdansk Authority SA took a decision to allocate in the year 2001 the funds amounting to PLN 500 000 to financially support the development of this project. This year, the Port of Gdansk Authority SA will supply further PLN 2 000 000. According to the schedule the development is due to completion in the 2nd quarter of this year and this deadline is most likely to be kept. |
