Polish diplomats in support of the Polish seaport

03.10.2011

The time of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council favours the promotion of Poland and its strengths - both in the cultural and economic domains. Numerous conferences, symposia and diplomatic visits - organized in attractive locations nationwide - provide an opportunity for Poland to present its national potential, which had remained unknown and inaccessible to the world over several decades following World War II.

Taking an advantage of such an opportunity, the delegation from the Gdansk Mayor's Office visited the Port of Gdansk, accompanied by a large group of Polish diplomats accredited in the Baltic states. At the vantage point of the gondola on top of the Northern Port's Harbour Office, the guests were received by PGA SA Marketing Director, Julian Skelnik.

The scenic panoramic view of the Gulf of Gdansk, the Old Town of Gdansk and the port, as seen from the height of 61 metres - together with the transloading operation under way, at the DCT container terminal built nearby, of the container giant "Elly Maersk" carrying up to 15.500 TEU as part of the direct Asia-Gdansk container service - corresponded perfectly with the presentation of the barriers and perspectives of the Port of Gdansk's development. Our ambassadors, consuls and commercial attachés were informed about the port's current standing, as well as about the scheduled developments and investment projects. A solid knowledge about the challenges, opportunities, as well as risks stemming from the competitive struggle to maintain the port's position on the Baltic shipping market may encourage Polish diplomatic posts to intensify their activities in this field.
