Port of Gdansk at the 6th National Scientific Conference "InfoGlobMar 2014"

10.06.2014

On 6 June 2014, the 6th National Scientific Conference "InfoGlobMar" was held at the Sopot-based Faculty of Economics of the University of Gdansk. The organizer of the event, Institute of Maritime Transport and Seaborne Trade of the University of Gdansk - in conjunction with the Department of Logistics and Transport Systems and the Department of Economics and Management of the Maritime Academy in Gdynia - decided to split up the proceedings into three focus teams: "Business in the Global Environment", "Risks in Business", and "Challenges and problems in Maritime Transport".

Those invited to attend "InfoGlobMar" included representatives of Polish seaports, among other participants. Acting on behalf of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA, Julian Skelnik, the PGA SA Foreign Affairs and PR Director, presented his lecture discussing the "Challenges for Polish seaports as exemplified by the Port of Gdansk".

Thanks to its accomplishments over the recent years and in view of its emerging prospects for the future, the Port of Gdansk was frequently mentioned in various presentations as the example of properly responding to changes in the Baltic shipping market.

Working in focus teams, conference participants discussed areas such as competitiveness in maritime transport, share of inland shipping transport in logistic systems, development prospects for ferry shipping and cruise markets, the role of intermodal transport, innovative approach in TSL industry, as well as methods of using artificial intelligence in forecasting risks related to bank IT systems and the importance of social capital for maintaining growth in the Baltic trade.
