Port of Gdansk has become a frontier of the Schengen zone21.12.2007  Following a three-year membership in the European Union, Poland - along with eight other countries - has entered the Schengen zone. From now on, the borders with Russia, Belarus and Ukraine as well as the entire coastline border have become the external frontiers of the zone. The Port of Gdansk has carried out preparations to welcome this event since the year 2001. The investment projects that are under implementation have accounted for the recommendations listed in the Schengen Catalogue of Best Practices.
The Port of Gdansk is a destination for people and goods coming from all over the world - as of 21 December 2007, Poland is bound with an obligation of providing security not only to its own borders, but also to the borders of other associated countries. Services operating at the Port of Gdansk are well aware of the fact and fully prepared for the efficient performance of new important tasks.
